Tell me something that I don't know #6

According to your book, "easter egg" has a surprising connotation. IN YOUR OWN WORDS, define it. Find an example to share here and in class (We already know the one in the book).

  1. Easter eggs consist of subliminal or hidden messages inside a medium. They are placed by the producers knowingly, and offer more detail into the overall meaning or experience the creators are trying to establish.

Ex. AMC has a dedicated website for its hit T.V show The Walking Dead. On this website viewers can post to a forum to communicate with other fans, get website only videos with shorts continuing the story, interviews with actors and etc. Viewers have to pay for a monthly cable subscription to access the site though. So cable providers are using the website as a "easter egg" to keep viewers paying for monthly cable during a drastic time of consumers switching to online media consumption.

  2. An Easter Egg is an inside joke or hidden message within its feature or work. This could be in Media such as using a real phone number instead of a 555 number or placing the address of 3 6's on a house that is being possessed. These things can add value for authenticity to the show without the audience really realizing they are there, or they could be negative and add nothing at all.

Ex. would be the subliminal messages with the Lion King spelling out the word SEX, in Aladdin saying "Teenagers take off your clothes". And the infamous penis shot on the cover of the Little Mermaid. These are subtle Easter Eggs hidden but these don't add value they are just negative.

  3. An "Easter Egg" is something that is intentional, such as a joke or message that could be hidden or subliminal. Easter Eggs are placed into media on purpose to emphasize the experience of media.

Ex. 1. In "The Little Mermaid," Mickey, Donald, and Goofy appear in the crowd during King Triton's entrance.
    2. Lady and Tramp appear during the Twlight Bark scene in "101 Dalmations"
    3. During the salmon fishing scene in "Brother Bear" Nemo appears out of the water.

  4. An "Easter Egg" is something that is put inside a medium such as TV, Movies or video games to add humor or get some playful revenge.

  5. In media an "Easter Egg" is a hidden message or imagine in a work. These "Easter Eggs" can be hidden in books, TV shows, movies, computer games, or any other medium. They can be used to add to the work or just as a joke by the creator.

An example of an Easter Egg in a work would be the game of snake hidden in any YouTube video. When a video is paused you can hold down the left arrow key on your keyboard while you hit the up arrow and start a game of snake.

  6. An "Easter Egg" is an intentional joke or message. It's typically placed in works such as book, TV shows, and movies by the creator. One example of this is that the Pizza Planet truck from Pixar's Toy Story appears in almost every other Pixar film.

  7. An Easter Egg is a hidden intentional message. In my high school film class, we discussed this. Alfred Hitchcock, a film director and producer, would have a small cameo in every single one of his movies. Here is a video of every one of his appearances:

See if you can find him! Some of his appearances were so short that if you blinked, you would miss him. If you haven't ever watched a Hitchcock movie I suggest that you do. They are very good!

  8. An Easter Egg is something hidden, a message or a theme in movies.
One example of an Easter Egg is hidden in the movie "The Departed" where each character that dies is marked for death with a cross, or x behind them.

  9. Dena Castling:

An easter egg is something that isn't seen just by watching. It is hidden either in the menu screen of a game or dvd, thrown in during a game or movie, or even at the end of a credit sequence. World Wrestling Entertainment includes extra videos and bloopers as easter eggs hidden throughout the menu screens on their DVD releases. By using the arrows on the remote, the viewer can scroll though the menu screen and then eventually will come across the hidden fun.

  10. An Easter egg is a hidden object in a media source (often Movies or video games) that viewers often have to actively participate in finding or searching for something in order to find it. most Easter eggs are references or puns about other media by the same developer or producer of the original content, and others are mistakes that have ween overlooked and exploited by the editors or designers.

  11. The easter egg has hidden meaning. We can find it in TV programs, ads and so on. Also, we can see it even in the coin. One of the example of it is Japanese 500 yen coin. In the number of 5, there are 6 micro characters, "NIPPON".

Here is the link to see the picture of 500 yen coin.

  12. An easter egg is a hidden message in something that has hidden meaning. My example is the american horror story commercials. In the commercials it shows all the characters in white except for four characters who are in black clothing. When the series concludes the women who were wearing black are the ones who died in the series by the end of the season. Also in the show, the whole purpose is finding out who the new leader of the coven is. The leader of the Coven is the 'Supreme'. The supreme possesses 7 powers known as the seven wonders. Sarah Paulsons character Cordelia is revealed to be the supreme at the end of the season. In the intro Sarah Paulsons name has a figure drawing behind it. The drawing is of an old legend of a woman who possesses seven powers. The answer was their for us all along.

  13. Easter Eggs are intentional visual aids with underlying meanings that are hidden. They can be fun to surprising and even all the way to interactive. There are some pretty awesome easter eggs in the latest game, grand theft auto 5. for example, Trevor, one of the characters in the game that you play as, owns an airport in the country. Everyday in the game at 7 p.m. there are two women who are boxed in by the police in a convertible choose to drive off the cliff then turn themselves in. Obviously a reference to Thelma and Louise http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/21/29-awesome-gta-5-easter-eggs

  14. And Easter egg is a message, joke, reference, credit, etc. that is HIDDEN within a media work. It is something that is meant to be found and enjoyed by a select few that are willing to look deeper into someone's work.

My favorite example is, ironically, considered to be where the term originated and is also the first known easter egg in a video game. In the Atari 2600 game Adventure!, there is a hidden item in the form of a single gray pixel (which makes this item invisible). Bringing this single pixel to a certain room, along with any other item, will cause a glitch that will allow the play to walk through the wall in this room. Beyond this wall is a secret room with a special message; "CREATED BY WARREN ROBINETT." Atari did not allow their programmers to take credit for their work at the time, so Warren left this message as way to still be able to credit himself while slipping past Atari's policies.

  15. An Easter Egg in Media is a plain-sight, hidden message that is placed by the producers. Often, finding the egg unlocks special features or codes such as in a video game or DVD. It is also used in advertising/marketing, which is what Old Spice did during a 2014 Super Bowl commercial. In the commercial, a girl gives her number to a guy on a piece of paper - but the number was real. The first person to call the number, on a random hunch, won 2 tickets to the Super Bowl.

  16. Easter eggs are hidden messages in certain media. The most often seen Easter eggs are in Disney movies. Most recently in Frozen, you see Rapunzel and Flinn from "Tangled" at the end of the movie. Another example, would be "Hercules" when he is wearing the fur of Scar from "The Lion King".
