Tell me something #10

The FINAL Tell me...

As you know the original Tell Me is from The Chris Matthews show, a syndicated TV show. One of the segments on it is "Tell Me Something that I Don't Know." Top news reporters from around the country tell Chris their "scoops and predictions" about current or future events. Our final Tell me is about the visual impact of news and photos. Looking at the following photos, decide the following and respond.

The FIRST five respondents tell me which is a better picture (top or bottom) and WHY you feel that way.

The second five (#6-10) make up a caption for either photo.

Any after tell me how you could use either  shot (which one?) in a video.

Due Thursday, December 1. Ho HO Ho.

  1. I think the bottom picture is a better picture because there is more light on his face and it seems clear and i can see his facial expression a lot better.

  2. It depends on where the pictures are placed on the computer screen. When the top picture is at the top of the screen, it seems darker and has more of an orange tint. But, when scrolled to the middle of the page, the lighting changes. But, I believe that the quality of the bottom picture is better. Also, the positioning of the man has a lot to do with it as well. When the man is placed in the left corner you can see his right shoulder making him look cut off and distant from whatever he is looking at but, with the man placed in the right hand corner, it cuts off his should making him look more open. THerefore; I believe the bottom picture to ultimatly be the better image.

  3. I believe the top is a better picture. The only reason I say so is because people typically "read" from left to right. The blank space to the right would be a great opportunity to include text or images to complete a better story. If the blank space were on the left, it would seem like it was irrelevant or past information and Chris is ready to move on to what's next.

  4. The top picture is better because of the cropping of the photo. In the top picture, it shows that the man is the first thing you see in the photo. The bottom photo generally looks unattractive because of all the white space to the right. It seems like the space is just wasted.

  5. The top photo is better because it gives the man nose room. When shooting a person whos attention is directed to the side of the screen you need to line the shot up so you can see more towards the direction the subject is looking. Otherwise the shot looks very awkward.
