Tell me something that I don't know about Luke Hobbs and the Arkansas Progressive.
How does the AR Progressive use social media?

Due March 28.

  1. The Arkansas Progressive covers what goes on in Little Rock, and some national politics. They have their own Facebook and Twitter, where they post links, photos, and stories. Luke said that he uses Twitter more then Facebook. All in all, the Arkansas Progresive was very interesting, since I knew nothing about them before Luke spoke.

  2. Luke Hobbs writes for the Arkansas Progressive, a magazine that covers primarily state politics. The AR Progressive uses Facebook and Twitter to post their stories. The writers also have their own personal Twitter accounts that discuss the stories. The AR Progressive uses social networking sites because it almost guarantees visibility.

  3. The Arkansas Progressive is interesting because they stopped using magazines due to costs. This is inetesting because it supports the whole "print is dead" ideology. He was a strong advocate of Twitter vs. Facebook which I enjoyed.

He says that every user needs to diversify their social media portfolio to ensure that they appeal to multiple social media demographics. He seemed to like twitter more due to the real time aspect of it, but he was also a fan of blogs in some aspects in their ability to allow in depth interaction between public officials and average-citizens.

Hobbs strongly believes social media is a key component for political officials. He did interest me in saying that television is beginning to fade vs. social media. I thought that to be interesting, because it is a true fact in that television news and other affiliates that refuse to reach out through social media are beginning to fade. Although, I personally believe television news will always remain relevant, they lose a large demogrpahic if they refuse to embrace the public through social media.

Overall Hobbs remained determined to express to us that unless you add social media and use it appropriately you'll be unable to reach massive audiences and will remain largely inaffective.

  4. The social media scene for Arkansas preogressive has two objectives with two different main sources. They use Twitter to make conversations and create a commentary for readers of the progressive. While Facebook is used mainly to post stories about what is going on in the world of politics in Arkansas. The Arkansas Progressive is web-based therefore their social media outlook is essential to get their message heard.

  5. Luke Hobbs, former editor of The Hobbs, now editor of Progressive Arkansas Magazine and blog, considers himself "not far removed from where we are", having graduated in 2009. Progressive Arkansas released 6 issues and is now on hold because "it's expensive." The Magazine now posts it's breaking stories on facebook, twitter, and their individual blogs. Luke leans toward using twitter more, even though non of his personal friends are active users, because politically the users are more passionate.

  6. Tuesday afternoon, Luke Hobbs spoke to our class about his current project, Progressive Arkansas. He called to our attention the exponential growth of social media in the last ten years. Hobbs discussed the use of social media in politics, and he gave our class several online examples - both positive and negative - of politicians using social media to promote their causes. Hobbs suggested that the most effective way to utilize social media is to diversify your portfolio by using multiple platforms.

  8. Luke Hobbs, the editor of the Arkansas Progressive, spoke to our class about the way the AR Progressive uses social media to benefit them. The AR Progressive covers mostly state politics, but they also cover some national politics. They use facebook and twitter to reach out to their audience. He described some ways that politicians use social networking for campaigning, too. AR Progressive Magazine posts the newest stories on their Facebook to get the message out there as soon as possible.

  9. As the social media became advantage, Luke Hobbs wrote the book AR Progressive. It's the symbol of the Arkansas to make media more radical. The AR Progressive uses the new media to post their things on the internet, and let everyone knows. This is a development of our new social media to connect.

  10. Luke Hobbs came and spoke to the class briefly. He spoke about how AR Progressive uses both Facebook and Twitter to communicate with their readers. He also talked about how using Twitter was a little more benefical because it can help him get out information faster then Facebook, so the people that are more into the political stuff would use Twitter. He said he uses both but Facebook is more of fan page because you can like the page but that is about it whereas on Twitter the tweets come in and are more quicker and easier to use

  11. I learned many things that day, like for instance if you spell my name backwards it says "Divad". Oh yeah back to the topic...Luke Hobbs who is an editor for AR Progressive came to class two weeks ago and spoke about Teen Pregnancy. Wait, I meant social media in politics. Hobbs noted that politicians use social sites like Flickr, Twitter, and YouTube to speak to their supporters. He also noted that when you make a video to your supporters make sure to make it about your views and your values, not about your favorite sports team. Once he was done he told us to egg his former girlfriends house. He said that she had cheated on him with Charlie Sheen. He rambled on about how she became infatuated with his Winning attitude and how his Tigers blood was just to much to pass up...Wait, what! Charlie Sheen is not trending anymore. Man! and to think I thought I was adding some genius humor...darn! Oh well, Tootles!!

  12. I did not hear Luke Hobbs speak so I checked out the Arkansas Progressive web site. It is an informative website that has good informtion and good articles about our state and our state officials, what their jobs are and what they are doing. Their Mission Statement states:"We believe that knowledge equals power, and our goal is to put more power in the people’s hands by giving them more knowledge of how government works in Arkansas." I like this statement. I agree that knowledge is power, as long as that power is used for good and not evil; life is good.

  13. Luke Hobbs gave good information on the magizine site he works for. I agree with Josiah about it being interesting that they decided to go totally internet versus print because of cost issues.
He also mentioned that twitter was better to him because it made seeing the news easier and faster than facebook. I personally disagree because I rarely use twitter and would much rather follow them on facebook becuause it seems more personal.
