Tell Me Something that I Don't Know

The Chris Matthews show is a syndicated TV show. One of the segments on it is "Tell Me Something that I Don't Know." Top news reporters from around the country tell Chris their "scoops and predictions" about current or future events. Similiarly, TELL US something that we don't know about technology or cultural/social media.  Keep in mind: this is more of a HOW TO that you demonstrate or present rather than then general news information.

1. Compare and contrast "TweetDeck" and "HootSuite." Try these out.
2. Are there any other similiar social media?

Due Monday, September 12,  NOON!!!

  1. In the online world of social media there are particular clients that can be used in order to consolidate all of your social media personalities into one functioning application thus allowing you to manage every social media entity from one location with a variety of helpful features for those who are regular in social media updating. Leading the way in the client applications used for social media are Tweetdeck and Hootsuite, thought both perform similar functions they differ in the features that they possess as well as interface for the user. Though both Tweetdeck and Hootsuite perform the basic function of allowing you to post across several social media outlets from one location at one time it is the specific features of the clients that make them invaluable, particularly that of Hootsuite whose key features are the ability to schedule tweets and status updates as well as providing metric statistics on the responsiveness of your posts. These two features in large part excel Hootsuite beyond Tweetdeck though Tweetdeck does boast in having a more Twitter friendly user interface it’s inability to match the powerful features of Hootsuite leave it in a second place performance for most users. Similarly, there is another client that appears high in the rankings of Google search results called, “Digsby”, it boasts in the ability to manage both instant messaging services and email as well as the entire spectrum of social media sites.

  2. Tweetdeck and Hootsuite are different in the fact that they are two different websites, but come together as a purpose to serve a general audience. Tweetdeck is an outlet for bands, clients and companies to market their ideas via twitter style. While HootSuite is a website that manages these brands and clients that are represented on tweetdeck. They seem to have a family style--"Father/Daughter" relationship. While their roles are different, the main purpose is to serve each other. (2) E-harmony and ZOOSK. They are both forms of on-line dating, but each website serves a different style audience. E-harmony offers a site where singles can join and provide extensive details about their life, religion, hobbies, interests, education, etc.. Then the info. is transmitted into their database and provides the looker with a list of potential prospects that have similar goals, likes/dislikes, religion and etc.. While ZOOSK seems to offer more of a fast and fun way of meeting people. Their website allows people to flirt and check out people, that aren't always matched accordingly to their preference. In comparison, they both provide an audience for "on-line daters" and have different forms of registration, but serve the same general purpose-- "Finding love" or developing relationships.

  3. Tweetdeck and Hootsuite are basically social networking management tools. Their purpose is to group your facebook, twitter, myspace, and other accounts together on one app. It also allows you to simultaneously update your profiles with statuses and comments. Both sites allow you to even update different accounts on the same network at the same time. Both apps have a url shortening feature that saves characters by posting a lengthy url under a much shorter one, such as bit.ly. Hootsuites standout feature is it tweet and status scheduling. You must simply set the date and time and write your tweet/status and it will automatically update it for you. This allows a tweeter to stay active at work or in an area not phone capable. It also has more compatible social networks than tweetdeck but they are constantly competing with eachother thus each have the major ones. Tweetdeck's great feature is the photo list. All you have to do is hover your cursor over their photo and it gives you options such as re-tweet, follow, unfollow, mark as read, view their profile and more. This saves a lot of clicking and searching. It also makes the re-tweet much more convienent which is what many users are most excited about.
There are other sites like these but they are generally on a lower population than tweetdeck and Hootsuite. Seesmic is another app like these two but it does not have near the options. For example, through seesmic, you cannot update several accounts at once.

  4. Tweetdeck and Hootsuite basiclly do the same thing in allowing you to update and keep track of your different social networking websites and applications. If you have an iphone or ipad (which is the best way to use these tools) all you have to do is download these apps and then link your Facebook, twitter, or myspace to them and its very simple to keep them updated because once you update one, the rest are automatically updated. They both have similarities like allowing you to update a photo with your status or having a simple layout for easy access but they also have their differences. Hootsuite is said to have more features because it allows you to access more social networks like any Ping.fm account, WordPress, FourSquare, Mixi, and MySpace. When i used these applications i felt it was so convenient to have one app that updates everything else so your not logging in and logging out overtime you want to update. It felt to easy and i really enjoyed it. I think twitter and Facebook are a little alike these but not as efficient. They are trying to connect each other so its easier to update the world.

  5. I used the website http://blog.hudsonhorizons.com/Article/HootSuite-VS-TweetDeck-Which-is-the-better-social-media-tool.htm for the reseach of this question.

HootSuite and Tweetdeck are tools used by social networking sites to basically integrate your online activity with your different networking sites. This type of tool is called a social media dashboard. They "allow the user to access multiple social networks on one screen," says Sharon Meyer in the article listed above. So if TweetDeck and HootSuite have essentially the same purpose, then what's the difference between the two? Let's start with HootSuite. This site allows you to schedule Tweets, add, create and manage Twitter lists, topic search and keyword tracking, etc. However, HootSuite doesn't clear tweets you have already seen, and there is an "overload of many options, tabs and settings."
TweetDeck updates MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter with one post, has custom ReTweet and Twitter style, allows you to manage multiple Twitter accounts, integrates with LinkedIn Professional Contacts, and is rumored to be easier and more user friendly than TweetDeck. Some of the downfalls though are that it does not support Ow.ly as a URL compression as a selectable option, and you'll experience pop up adds for each status update that appears on your feed.

  6. TweetDeck and HootSuite are applications and tools used for organizing and combining social media. Both apps can be used on your desktop or phone. They both bring Twitter, Facebook, LikedIn, etc. together on one dashboard. The news feed from each media is displayed in columns on one screen. These tools would be great for celebrities with many social media accounts, or any other persons who is connected to the world via social media. I was going to download the app for my iphone but honestly I think it’s a little much for my use. I want to cut down on the time I spend on social media.
TweetDeck’s web page is not as interactive and does not have as much information as HootSuite. HootSuite seems to have more customizable options such as interactive calendars and languages. Hootsuite even has a report builder. TweetDeck did not offer as much information about its service.
There are a plethora of other social media management tools. For example Threadsy not only connects social media together but also e-mail. There is also one called Spreadfast which is geared towards social media marketers, which can track your social media presence. MediaFunnel is used to moderate your online presence. There is even a feature that requires approval for postings by people involved in your brand.
