The Chris Matthews show is a syndicated TV show. One of the segments on it is "Tell Me Something that I Don't Know." Top news reporters from around the country tell Chris their "scoops and predictions" about current or future events. Similiarly, TELL US something that we don't know about technology or cultural/social media.
Keep in mind: this is more of a HOW TO that you demonstrate or present rather than then general news information.
Ideas: What does the # do? What is RT and why should I care? Useful freeware. Apps to use in school.

ReplyDeleteIn 2010 alone, professional athletes were fined nearly $258,000 for tweets that seemed inappropriate by their respective leagues.
ReplyDeleteOn Facebook, the factors that determine what posts show up on the "Top News" feed has a lot to do with whether a picture/video or link was posted and whether or not it had received a lot of feedback whether through likes or comments. Posts with more feedback or content posted along with it has a higher likeliness of showing in your friends "Top News"
ReplyDeleteInstagram is the next big social media site. It's like twitter, but you just post photos with a small status.
ReplyDeleteI looked up the definition for HTTP. It stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. It basically gives definition to how messages are formatted and then transmitted to the Internet. It also tells the Web servers and browsers what to do in response to various commands that you may give.
ReplyDeleteEver since the technology age began, our generation's grammar has declined. So I was pleased to see that Apple is offering "Grammar App." this app is available for Ipad and Iphone and can be downloaded from the App Store. The app offers 100 tutorials and 600 questions. It is like having an english tutor right in your pocket and only cost two dollars.
ReplyDeleteJust to put into perspective just how effective social media has become in marketing and advertising, we all know how much money corporations fork over during super bowl season to get their ads aired on commercial breaks. They do so in light of the massive amounts of exposure and revenue they receive. But when Ford Explorer launch their new 2011 model on Facebook, they received more than 200% the revenue they received from their super bowl commercial.
ReplyDeleteCurrently on twitter-- Lady GaGa is the number one most followed person and refers to her followers as her "little monsters" ... In second place is Justin Beiber... and the number three most followed on twitter (which shocks me that people actually keep up with him, simply because he is not a "famous singer,athlete,etc.. but popular in his own right-- none other than Mr. President 'Barack Obama'

ReplyDeleteWhile I'm not a iPhone user (or even a smart phone user at that) I found by searching online apps that are wonderful for college students. A top 10 list shined light on some of these for me and my favorite one was "Cram" which allows the user to make their own flash cards in order to study for their next test.
ReplyDeleteWho needs to write anything down anymore?

ReplyDeleteThe common barcode that we see on products is called UPC (Universal Product Code). The digits are coded with two black and two white stripes. Each stripe has a width ranging from 1 to 4 units and the overall width of every digit always adds up to 7. Also, some digits of the barcode are reversed and read right to left to cut down errors when read by the scanner.
ReplyDeleteSmart phones like the android have many Apps that can be reviewed. And downloaded in seconds. Many apps are free and if an apps you are looking for does cost there is usually a free trial or a knck off some where hidden. An app that I just downloaded a couple minutes ago was a knock off of rosetting stone for Spanish. Also for this class I was able to download a translator which has the option of typing or speaking Spanish or English for the proper translation. Talk about a great study guide!
ReplyDeleteDue to social media, traditional advertising has taken quite a bit of a hit. Now only 18% of traditional TV campaigns generate a positive return on investment. As opposed to much higher numbers in previous years.
ReplyDeleteBecause of social media, there are new words coming into play like "wiki" and "vlog". They are slowly being used ver common on Facebook, google, and youtube.
ReplyDeleteA segment on National Public Radio brought up the impact of social media on a political level. Civil unrest in countries such as Egypt, Libya, and Somalia, have had current protests and demonstrations to overthrow the government and beg for political change. Facebook has been a platform and cyber meeting room for current worldwide revolution trends. The question begged by NPR is whether people are starting revolutions, or is it Facebook?
ReplyDeleteWhen using google, it is more effective while doing a search to use double quotation marks around a set of words. By doing this you are telling Google to use the exact words in the exact order without any change. This narrows down what a person is looking for.

ReplyDeleteThe US is behind in broadband compared to other countries. To try and catch up in the world the government created the National Broadband Act. What it is supposed to do is bring jobs, be more accessible. It is basically, "A foundation for other goals."
