Tell me something that I don't know

The Chris Matthews show is a syndicated TV show. One of the segments on it is "Tell Me Somthing that I Don't Know." Top news reporters from around the country tell chris their "scopes and predictions" about current or future events. Similiarly, TELL US something that we don't know about tecnology or cultural/social meia.

Keep in mind: this is more of a HOW TO that you demonstrate or present rather than then general news information.

Ideas: What does the # do? What is RT and why should I care? Useful freeware. Apps to use in school.

Not looking for: On Tuesday, there were slam poets here in the CC.

  1. There is a new way on the new Iphone 4 to get internet on your laptop, anywhere.

This is an option called Internet Tethering. Internet tethering is the newest addition to the iphone, which allows people to run the internet from their cellular phones to their laptops, without Wi-Fi, no matter the location.

First- You need to set up internet tethering on your cell phone plan with your carrier. AT&T charges a small fee per month.
Once it has been added to your bill, you can turn on the tethering option on your cell phone in the settings tab.

Once it is connected, you may start running your internet on your laptop from the internet off your phone. It's that easy.

This is great for people on the go, needing instant access to a laptop with internet.

  2. I'm sure we all know now what RT means, but before I had a twitter account I had no idea.

RT means to Retweet. All you have to do is under your tweet that you post, there is a Retweet button that you click on and it'll simply retweet for you.

The main reason you should want to Retweet, it lets the people know who follow you on twitter that you care about what they post to you, and allows you to respond.

  3. As the popularity of the iphone and the ipad increase, more opportunities to access media-geared apps are made available. Synthetic Infatuation's Hipstamatic app allows digital photographers to access photography features from the past, and it allows users to experience the features in a digital format.

The initial download of Hipstamatic costs $1.99, and with this download, the user gains access to a variety of films, flashes, and lenses that were popular in the past. For an additional $.99, users can purchase additional "hipstapaks" which contain additional films, flashes, and lenses. Hipstamatic also includes a feature that allows the user to shake the camera in order to randomly select a film, flash, and a lens.

Hipstamatic's user-friendly app provides opportunities to experiment with photography for beginning photographers as well as seasoned professionals. Creative experimentation has no limits with this fun and useful application.

  4. Facebook has, within the past 4 months or so, added a shop tab that is available for businesses. Business pages that sell merchandise are now able to sell these products directly from Facebook.

This tab has made it possible to make international sales with the ease of clicking a tab, choosing the product, and purchasing the product. The shop now tab uses PayPal for purchases.

Without this tab, the process of selling products to different countries is exponentially more difficult. To see an example, visit the Facebook page for the shop I work at. http://www.facebook.com/beautysboutique?v=app_135607783795

  5. Arizona gunman Jared Loughner updated his Myspace Profile to say "Goodbye Friends" before he carried out his deadly rampage in Tucson. One can assume he did this only because he didn't want to share his thoughts with the world. Realistically, if he wanted the world to know what he was about to do he would've posted it on Facebook...

With Facebook easily beating former Social Networking Giant Myspace, the company began enacting several changes in order to compete...

Back in the far away world of 2004 before Facebook ruled the world I did have a "Myspace" which at the time was slow, but cool.

However when Facebook came around I quickly jumped on that wagon and left the myspace account to collect dust. Myspace realized they were falling behind and did everything in their power to compete with Facebook. They even incorporated "statuses" into the site for the first time in order to try to compete. Then they followed with features similar to Facebook's "Wall".

However, Facebook was just one step ahead and remained the faster and simpler aternative without being plagued by senseless backgrounds and unnecessary extras.

Realizing they were no longer a superpower in the Social Networking war, Myspace.com launched a new version of Myspace.com focused on music, movies, and entertainment in order to reach the Under-30 crowd currently dwelling on Facebook...

However, this change hasn't helped them much. Last Wednesday NewsCorp laid off half of the Myspace staff and announced plans to "explore strategic options for the site." (News Corp spokeswoman Julie Henderson).

It's become abundantly clear that while the fight for the future of Social Networking continues, Myspace must either completely reinvent itself or suffer inevitable defeat...

  6. Today I saw on CNN Headline news a new iphone app. It is called the Verbal Victor.
This app is created by an Associate Professor of Computer Science and his students at Wakeforrest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This particular professor has a child that has Pitt-Hopkins Syndrom which is a genetic disorder with symptoms that include delayed walking and talking skills.
    His son Victor can't talk.
This app was created to give a voice to children with emerging communication skills.
With this app all you have to do is touch a picutre and the iphone/ipad will say what you want.
This app sells for $7.00 dollars.
I think this is great technology for a world of children that could not previously communicate verbally.

  8. Many of you guys already know what a Hashtag is, but for those who don't know, well here's the answer. A Hashtag is used by Twitter users to catergorize their Tweets. By using Hashtags it places your Tweet into an appropriate category. If you're still confused than you must be an IDIOT...I kid. But let me break it down for you.

First you Tweet (Ex. When I was young I use to think Music came from the sky). After that put a hashtag next to it( Ex. Kids think the stupidest things). By doing this other users will respond to your Tweet with something that pertains to your Hashtag.

  9. There is an app on the Iphone that allows you to scan a bar code on any product and it will show you the name of the product, and how much it costs at all the known locations it is sold at. Its very handy for price matching things that you need for school.

  10. There may come a time in your technology career that your laptop or computer will stumble upon a rouge anti-virus program that will completely sever access to any programs on your computer without puchasing the fake anti-virus program. To solve it you must locate the file causing the problem then boot up your computer in safe mode and then make a new user name for the computer and then finally getting to the file to delete it. The one I had on my computer was called System Tool.

  12. I didn't know that a persons could create a web site to do something potentially illegal. Prank dialer.com will prank call someone and let you use a fake phone number to cover up your identity. How is this legal? They even make money through it per call.
